Fire Brigade Medal of Honour of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia was established on 29 December 1954 in recognition of services in the field of fire protection.
The fire brigade medal of all levels consists of an isosceles enamel cross and shows a red flame cross on a white background on all four arms. The flames themselves are framed in either silver or gold according to the level awarded. In the middle is the state coat of arms of North Rhine-Westphalia. On the ring, the inscription Für Verdienste im Feuerschutz can be read. The 3rd, 2nd and 1st levels are worn on the red-white-red ribbon with the corresponding colour (silver or gold) on either side.
The medal is worn on the left side of the chest.
The Fire Brigade Medal of Honour is awarded in three levels, with the first two levels being for active service. The periods of career training in the fire service and the times in the youth fire brigade are to be taken into account. Periods spent in a plant fire brigade are also creditable, but only for up to five years. The Fire Brigade Medal of Honour can therefore be awarded to: Members of the volunteer fire brigades, Members of the professional fire brigade, members of the plant fire brigades as well as Other employees who belong to a career in the fire service.
Classification - The already mentioned 3-level of the Decoration of Honour is not tied to German citizenship and contains the following classification:
For active service 3rd level: for 25 years of active service in silver with ribbon
and the 2nd level: for 35 years of active service in Gold with Ribbon.
1st level: for 50 years of active service in gold with wreath with ribbon.
