The summer uniform, also called ‘drabs’, was khaki long-sleeved shirt and pants with or without a khaki jacket.
In tropical areas, khaki short-sleeved shirt and shorts with long socks was often worn.
The khaki tropical uniform remained in use until 2013 when it too disappeared.
As of 21 April 2013, Air Force will officially farewell its Tropical Dress, a uniform worn by male Air Force members over the last 75 years.
Based on a similar uniform worn by British military personnel, Tropical Dress was introduced shortly before the Second World War, and widely worn during the conflict by Air Force personnel deployed to the Middle East, North Africa, South East Asia and Northern Australia. The wearing of Tropical Dress endured following the war.
